SWAP – heterogeneous, workload-optimised robot teams and production architectures
In the dynamic and demanding global market environment, manufacturing companies are faced with the challenge of creating customized and cost-effective products. In the face of increasing market volatility, these companies must not only be flexible, but also guarantee on-time deliveries, high product quality and seamless traceability. To meet these complex requirements, an interdisciplinary Fraunhofer consortium offers innovative software and hardware solutions that include advanced approaches in production control and organization as well as in component handling, quality assurance and traceability.
The "SWAP-IT" architecture, a new technological concept for implementing the production of tomorrow, was developed as part of the Fraunhofer lighthouse project "SWAP". "SWAP-IT" enables the transformation of rigid process chains with individual processing stations into flexible and dynamic manufacturing environments. The core of this innovation is a modular cyber-physical production system that efficiently integrates both centralized and decentralized elements.
