Department Cognitive Industrial Systems (KIS)
The Cognitive Industrial Systems department (KIS) develops intelligent components and processes for flexible and resource-efficient production. This includes the use of AI and machine learning to evaluate large amounts of data in production and also work on new processes for intelligent and flexible automation technology. Located in the Karlsruhe Research Factory, we bridge the gap between cutting-edge research on basic technologies and application-oriented solution development.
With reference to solutions for practical use, we create in the department with the open62541 library for OPC UA a technology that is in long-term practical use by many industrial users.
In cutting-edge research, the department is part of the German Research Foundation(DFG)'s research group 5339 for the research of an "AI-based methodology for the rapid upgrading of immature production processes".
