Doug McDonald received his M. Sc. in Optics and Photonics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany in 2020. Prior to this, he obtained his BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada in 2017. He began working in the Adaptive Optics group at Fraunhofer IOSB in 2019 as a research assistant focussing on free-space optical communications and sensorless adaptive optics. Upon graduating in 2020, Doug joined the group full-time as a research associate. His current research interests include: turbulence mitigation for free-space optical communications links, coherent free-space optical communications, and high-speed implementation of digital signal processing for optical communications.
