Projects and products

Our research and development work happens within the framework of projects - these include equally R&D contracts with industrial customers, publicly funded (collaborative) research projects, and pre-competitive research projects funded by Fraunhofer. You can browse through many of these projects below - as well as products, i.e. results of our R&D activities that have reached a high level of technological maturity.

Please note:

  • The most recently updated projects and products are displayed first.
  • You can filter the list by department or business unit assignment as well as by free-text search terms - but for the latter, the spelling must be exact.

  • Protection of critical maritime infrastructures

Heterogeneous unmanned group of intelligent water vehicles (HUGIN)

The HUGIN project set itself the goal of researching and improving the collaboration and cooperation of intelligent, autonomous watercraft. Algorithms and technologies from a wide range of areas, such as artificial intelligence, data analysis and control technology, were integrated in such a way that the overall demonstrator, consisting of several vehicles, was able to plan missions independently in various scenarios and execute them in a resource-optimized manner.

  • Waste4Future: Turning waste into green molecules for chemistry

Fraunhofer lighthouse project develops holistic approach to plastic recycling

Keeping carbon in the cycle, and thus avoiding plastic waste and emissions: That is the goal of the “Waste4Future” project. Several Fraunhofer institutes and facilities IMWS, IZFP, IWKS, IOSB, FHR, LBF and IVV are pooling their competences to develop an entropy-based assessment model for carbon-containing waste streams and new technologies for sensing, sorting and mechanical and chemical recycling.

  • DRUM – drone-based support for mass events

Our technologies for authorities and organizations

The aim of the DRUM project is to create tools that provide support for drone teams and the operational management of BOS in the security monitoring of mass events. The main task is to automate the evaluation of sensor data and to create a means of transmitting and clearly visualizing the results, enabling the incident command team to quickly and easily assess the situation, identify dangerous situations and locate relevant events.

  • The TRM4 Batch Module is a customized solution that we offer our customers for performing TRM4 calculations in batch. Here, customers define which set of TRM4 input parameters they want to change and which output parameters they want to access. In return, we provide a C programming interface for TRM4 that can be integrated into third-party software with a compatible C interface (e.g. Python, Matlab) to perform TRM4 calculations in batch for the defined input and output parameters.

  • Automated drone image and video exploitation for emergency service organizations

Our technologies for emergency service organizations

In any operation conducted by emergency services such as firefighters, police, or rescue services, the first steps are situation reconnaissance and risk assessment. Drones that transmit live video to the ground control station, can offer a great advantage, especially in complex incidents that are spread over large areas.
