Projects and products

Our research and development work happens within the framework of projects - these include equally R&D contracts with industrial customers, publicly funded (collaborative) research projects, and pre-competitive research projects funded by Fraunhofer. You can browse through many of these projects below - as well as products, i.e. results of our R&D activities that have reached a high level of technological maturity.

Please note:

  • The most recently updated projects and products are displayed first.
  • You can filter the list by department or business unit assignment as well as by free-text search terms - but for the latter, the spelling must be exact.

  • Multilayer environment modeling and optronics-based intelligent protection of systems and properties (MUSAL)

Cooperative environmental modeling for autonomous systems and surveillance tasks

    © Fraunhofer IOSB

Overview of the components of the MUSAL ecosystem, sample autonomous mobile systems, and generated point cloud data.

The internally financed MUSAL research project is dedicated to the challenge of conceptualizing and implementing so they can contribute to a holistic description of the existing situation.

  • Economic efficiency, sustainability, ecology and individuality: Intermodal mobility - the use of different modes of transport on one route - has great potential. But the complexity must remain manageable. In other words: Getting to your destination intermodally, for example with a combination of (rental) bike, public transport and e-scooter, must be as easy and pleasant as reaching for your own car key.

  • A holistic optimization of district heating supply areas offers great potential, for example, through the feed-in of renewable energies, network expansion, energy savings and cost reduction, as well as a reduction in CO2 emissions. The aim is to initially make synergies visible by exchanging and combining data/information that has not been exchanged before, and ultimately to generate added value for as many participants as possible.

  • For performance evaluation of electro-optical systems, image simulations have advantages and disadvantages over analytical models such as TRM4 . Here, the greatest advantages arise from the use of image data, which allows realistic simulation of anisoplanatic and statistical effects such as turbulence, as well as simulation of advanced digital signal processing techniques.
