With our expertise in aerial and satellite image-based reconnaissance, multi- and hyperspectral imaging, image exploitation and related fields, we develop customized and innovative solutions for condition monitoring of critical infrastructures, for monitoring growth and forecasting the harvest of field crops and specialty crops, or for identifying heat islands in cities.
Remote sensing is the contactless recording of information over large areas of the earth's surface. This is based on sensors and instruments carried by drones and satellites. This enables us to record environmental conditions more quickly and monitor critical infrastructure more efficiently:
- For example, engineers can use it to monitor the condition of dikes and pipelines, identify weak points and suggest options for action. This contributes significantly to the security of infrastructures that are essential for protection against flooding and for energy supply.
- Satellite and drone images are used in environmental monitoring as well as in agriculture and forestry to collect environmental data such as soil conditions, vegetation changes and the health of plants. This helps to ensure that measures are targeted and contribute to sustainability, for example through targeted irrigation, fertilization or pest control. This can increase yields while conserving resources and reducing environmental pollution.
- Global warming also leads to the formation of urban heat islands. To increase the climate resilience of cities, we identify particularly affected areas using remote sensing and simulate countermeasures in digital twins.
One general advantage of remote sensing over conventional methods is the possibility to efficiently capture and analyze large areas, thus reducing time and costs. We maximize efficiency by using an automated processing chain. This includes geometric corrections (e.g. equalization) and, in particular, radiometric corrections to minimize the disturbing influences of weather and lighting.
