Business unit Defense and Security

Welcome to the website of the Defense and Security business unit at Fraunhofer IOSB! We stand for applied research and technological innovations along the entire “light utilization chain” – from the physics of light generation and signal formation to the use of the information contained therein. Whether you need expert advice or a reliable partner for research and development projects, we are happy to support you!

With our analysis and evaluation capabilities, in specific technology projects and through contract research and development, we support the Federal Ministry of Defense with its subordinate agencies and departments as well as the defense industry. The rapid implementation of current research results for the empowerment of the Bundeswehr and the protection of soldiers is our top priority.

Where possible, the work is embedded in civilian security research and other applications in order to exploit synergies. Networking with various committees, institutions, and organizations within the EU, NATO, and the scientific community plays an important role.
