Innovative optronic components

Sensor systems as solutions for non-contact measurement and quality control of complex components

Contactless measurement and quality control of complex-shaped components made of different materials is a demanding task. At Fraunhofer IOSB, we develop innovative optronic sensor systems that enable fast and reliable defect detection. The focus here is on active sensor concepts based on lasers and spectrally or spatially modulated light sources. In addition to precision and targeted data analysis, the focus is on integration into production processes, e.g. in the automotive and consumer goods industries.

With deflectometry and ellipsometry methods, one focus is on defect detection on reflective or painted surfaces, which is particularly important in the automotive and consumer goods industries. The testing of glass and other transparent objects is based, among other things, on our patented “Purity” technology. It detects and differentiates between changes in transparency, inclusions and air bubbles in three-dimensional objects of any shape.

The development of our own (laser) triangulation method enables us to perform precise three-dimensional measurements on small object geometries in the micrometer range up to vehicle bodies several meters in size. Our own data processing and evaluation methods also optimize the analysis and use of the sensor data using AI.
