Fraunhofer IOSB offers a wide range of competencies in the field of autonomous systems and robotics – on land, in the air, or on water. Our focus is on developing innovative technologies for autonomous robot systems. Whether automated construction machines, industrial robot solutions, or autonomous underwater systems: We research customized solutions that bring technology from basic research into practice.


We are setting new standards, particularly in the field of autonomous working machines. By using state-of-the-art sensors and AI-based algorithms for environment perception, motion planning, and regulation, we create autonomous systems that work precisely, efficiently, and safely—even in demanding environments such as construction sites or underwater.

In the area of teaming, we enable heterogeneous UxV teams to plan complex tasks independently and execute them in a resource-optimized manner. They can respond to their environment in a situation- and system-specific manner and dynamically adjust their plans in response to changing requirements. The systems are suitable for a wide range of application contexts, such as the protection of critical infrastructure and properties, emergency and disaster management, and the monitoring of environmental conditions.

Our extensively equipped robot laboratories enable us to quickly test and validate new approaches. Thanks to our many years of experience and numerous successfully implemented projects, we can develop customized solutions in a short time and turn them into practical prototypes.
