Brief description
The EU-funded ACROSS (Adaptive Camouflage for soldiers and vehicles) project is developing multispectral, adaptive camouflage solutions for soldiers and platforms in order to increase the protection of land forces. A strong consortium of various European partners is pooling its expertise to offer innovative, cutting-edge technologies and disruptive materials in several spectral ranges that can be used in textiles, for example. The Fraunhofer Institutes ICT and IOSB are involved in the project as research partners.
Project goals
The aim of ACROSS is to develop adaptive camouflage techniques and devices that can adapt their signatures to the background, even in the most diverse environmental conditions.
Our contribution
Fraunhofer IOSB's Signatorics department is involved with this expertise:
- With our threat assessment knowledge, we can investigate the appropriate technologies and develop camouflage concepts to protect soldiers and their equipment.
- In our environmental laboratory simulation lab, we have the ideal research
infrastructure to test LED-based measures and make it ready for use. After passing laboratory tests, the newly designed materials are also tested and evaluated in field trials.
